In the year of grace 1095, at the Council of Clermont, our Pope Urban II addressed the knights and faithful gathered there.
Before this assembly, which had come from all corners of Christendom, he called upon the men of the West to aid the Christians of the East and to defend the Holy Places.

His voice resonated as a call to honor and faith:
"What a shame if such a despised people, slaves of demons, were to triumph over the nation devoted to the worship of God and honored by the name of Christian!"
